The Young Creatives group is for young people aged 16-25. The sessions are bespoke to each individual and we support each young person to explore their interests through their creativity and build a creative practice at a pace that suits them.
The sessions are delivered by creative professionals who provide mentoring and support as well as guided workshops that introduce various materials and techniques. The environment is laid-back and friendly; we aim for every young person to feel safe, supported and included.
Young people who attend our Young Creatives group may face barriers to education, employment, and training; this can be due to social anxiety, a lack of confidence, or mental health issues. Our person-centred approach meets the individual at their level of need and ensures everyone feels safe to build on their skills at their own pace whilst we support them to work towards their goals, big or small, such as independently travelling, applying to further education or creating products to sell at a market. This results in an increase in confidence and agency, enabling a successful transition onto their next steps such as employment, further education or self-employment.
This is how it works
We support individuals at their level of need. Our logic and approach starts with building trust, relationships and supporting them to build core skills such as:
- Leaving their house
- Getting public transport
- Communicating with us about changes of plan
- Regular attendance to weekly groups
- Making new friends, and socialising (inside and outside sessions)
- Presenting their work and sharing this with others
- Working as part of a team and collaborating with others
- Wider achievements including driving tests and applying for part-time jobs
These incremental steps build positive habits and routines, helping to grow confidence, independence and agency.
